Wash Guide | Washing Advice for Wool Blankets

Washing instructions for wool blankets

Wool is a natural material that will stay beautiful for years with proper care. Wool is durable and can be used for a very long time. Follow these steps to properly wash and store your Pure Wool Love wool or (merino) wool blanket.

Self-cleaning ability of wool

The most important thing to know is that wool has a self-cleaning ability due to, among other things, the lanolin it contains. Wool freshens up very well by airing it out, preferably on a damp morning outdoors. So, washing is often not necessary, not even for the first use.

Stains?

With a stain, you naturally have to wash it. And that's possible. But carefully, otherwise you will suffer from shrinkage or felting of the wool. And you want to prevent that.

Step 1 — Check the washing label Always check the washing label of your blanket first. Most Pure Wool Love wool blankets are machine washable at 30°C, but of course on a special wool program that does not spin too hard to prevent friction.

Step 2 — Use a wool detergent Use a mild wool detergent, preferably one containing lanolin. Avoid detergents with enzymes or bleach — these will damage the wool fibers.

Step 3 — Wash at 30°C with a wool program Wash the blanket at a maximum of 30°C with the wool program or delicate wash program. Use a low spin speed to prevent shrinking. And preferably wash the blanket alone or with other small wool items such as wool rompers. But don't overfill the machine, because then you will still suffer from a lot of friction.

Step 4 — Dry flat on a towel Lay the blanket flat on a dry towel to dry. Never hang a wet wool blanket — this will deform the fibers. And the shape will not return. That would be a shame! Do you want to speed up the drying process a bit? Lay the blanket on a towel and gently roll it up so that the towel absorbs some moisture. Then continue drying it flat on the towel.

Step 5 — Store dry and aired Store the blanket in a dry, ventilated place. Use a cotton storage bag to repel moths.
